Comments

• Characters have to be clearly visible, otherwise it’s better to make no choice.
• If legs I-III are missing the number of dorsal spines on tibia IV can be helpful already.
• Tibial spine formula is variable as well! E.g., some species of Centromerus have one or two spines on tibia IV.
• Male pedipalp:
• Classification of apophyses on tibia is sometimes difficult (simple – complex; one – multiple) -> select multiple characters
• teeth on paracymbium are not considered as apophyses
• Embolus: If not circular or curled -> unremarkable (may still be clearly visible)
• Femur: very long -> select unremarkable
• Lamella characteristica (LC): all Troglohyphantes with LC
• Epigyne:
• with atrium/cavity: only when not concealed by scapus (Centromerus sylvaticus „without“ cavity)
• Overall appearance is variable as well (fading in alcohol; body and legs pale after moulting).
